God Made The Earth, Setting The Stage For Learning About Creation!

I was so excited when I was approched to teach the 2-5 year old Sunday school class! I started thinking "What should I teach about first?" and "Is there a curriculum that they want me to follow?"
I asked my pastor and his wife and they gave me a huge stack of ABeka stories with flash cards. I thought a lot about where to start and thought, why not in the beginning?! :)

I bought myself a $0.15 notebook to put all my lesson plans, sources, coloring pages, snack ideas, art projects, etc in :)

Well, with 2-5 year olds I decided that the ABeka Creation Story was just too much for one lesson! I wanted my kids to really understand {and REMEMBER} the creation story!! I decided to do the first lesson just generally, setting the stage, God made the Earth! All of it! We talked about what was there before God created EVERYTHING and we did a God made the Earth and God made ME craft! We had Earth jello and just had a blast!! I will outline it for you and share my sourses with you all! I had such a fun time with this lesson!

THE BIBLE

Genisis 1:1-2 (KJV)
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."

THE LESSON

ABeka Book: Genesis Series 1
Creation, Adam, & Cain
Lesson 1 Creation
Introduction

I will not share the text of the Intro because it is Copyrighted. The above is what I used tho :)
*I held up a black sheet of construction paper to illustrate the 'blackness' before God created everything!

THE CRAFT
God Made The World and God Made Me!

I got my idea from this blog: to the moon and back! I changed it a little as you can see in the picture :) I basically used construction paper instead of the foam and I cut out little kids holding hands to put around the 'earth', my kid(s) loved it! Quinlan was so excited that he "had a bunch of little Quinlans" on his earth. He is such a cutie!
Please check out the original blog post about this project here!

*When I started this project I was not meaning to decoupage it, lol ;) I was squeezing the glue bottle and the cap came off!

THE SNACK
Earth Jello

Ok, kids LOVE jello!! I have a child in my class who is allergic to gluten and eggs, so jello is also a safe bet! I found the idea for Earth jello here! Please check it out! I used Jolly Rancher Jello which was so yummy and smelled just like the hard candy!

THE SONG
Seven Days of Creation Song

I found this song here! Please go check it out! It is to the tune of 'Are you sleeping brother John' so it is perfect for those little ones. They cannot read the words yet, but they can repeat after you! The kids are just so cute with this song :)

THE COLORING PAGE

I was so excited when I found this blog! It has so many good ideas and it is just wonderful! You should all go check it out! But this post on the blog is what really caught my attention! She has such great ideas about teaching kids the creation story! My kids LOVE these coloring pages, and the best part is that you can make them into a little book for them!

My first week went really well! I attend a small Baptist church in MN and I just had the one little boy that first week, and it was very fun! We both had a great time learning about God's Creation! He also told me "My dads name is Jer, but that is just his married name, his real name is Daddy!" Awe, kids say the cutest things!! I just love being able to teach this age group!
